Chris Ferguson is one of the most easily recognized poker players in the world. He acquired the nickname Jesus because of his long hair and beard. This has resulted in his not only being easily recognizable but also being one of the most popular players in the world. Of course the fact that he is also one of the best players in the game is a big factor in this as well. Ferguson built his fame by winning some of the biggest tournaments there are. These days however he is not playing in very many tournaments.

Nobody can say that Chris Ferguson didn’t pick up his interest in poker honestly, after all his father is a university professor who specializes in game theory. Not only did Ferguson get an interest in games from his father but also his academic skills as he would get a PhD himself, in Chris’s case it was in computer science. After a brief spell in the world of academia however Ferguson decided that he would rather be playing poker so that’s exactly what he did.

The path that Chris Ferguson took to becoming a poker star is a familiar one. He started playing poker for fun as a child and then when he got to college he really started to get into the game. He actually started winning poker tournaments while he was still in college but he decided to stick it out at school until he had completed his PhD. Not long afterwards however he would get the biggest win of his career at the World Series of Poker Main Event. At that point there was no thought of going back to the world of academia.

Although he has won lots of tournaments it will be the World Series of Poker that people think about when they hear the name Chris Ferguson. He has managed to pick up five bracelets at the WSOP including one in the main event. The other tournaments have however helped to enhance his reputation as one of the great tournament players of all time. Nevertheless he has largely moved on to cash games these days.

In addition to the cash games that he plays in Chris Ferguson has become one of the leaders in the world of online poker. Not so much as a player but rather as the developer of a poker site. The site that he founded proved to be very successful but it did lead to trouble. Ferguson and his partners were fined more than four hundred million dollars and had their site shut down because the government believed that they were illegally paying themselves with player’s money. The matter is still being argued in the courts so the end result remains to be seen. It is however unlikely that Ferguson will be back in the world of online poker.

A blocker bet or blocking bet is when you make a small bet when you are first to act just to see what the next card is without putting in too much money into the pot. When you make a blocking bet, your opponent will most likely not make a big bet or raise and just call. Doing a blocking bet helps you prevent other players to make big bets which will be natural if you just checked.

You need to know when and how to make a blocking bet or this move will just be throwing away your chips or money.

Remember that you can only make a blocking bet when you are out of position. The idea behind the move is that you want to see what the next card is and not risking too much of your stack when you expect that your opponent will be putting a lot into the pot.

When you play a blocking bet you can expect to get some good money when you complete the cards you need.

You can also use this play when all of the cards have been drawn. You can block at the river when you are against a player who bluffs a lot. You can block bet against a player who is about to make a big bet because he has a monster hand or it is just a complete bluff. If you think you have a medium strength hand with a good kicker then you can do a blocker bet for a showdown. You can put in some chips to prevent the other player from bluffing but just small enough so you do not lose a lot in case your opponent comes out on top.

Another important point when making a block bet is just to put in a reasonable amount or otherwise your opponent will make life harder for you because he or she will have enough space to raise.

Playing poker is a mental pursuit where even the big guns of the game may slide down the dangers of poker tilt. Say goodbye to your money when you enter a tilt. Here are some of the common poker tilts that we may encounter:

Digging one’s grave

You sit down, play some poker, and get beaten early on the game. The early misfortunes are all that it takes to tilt someone. You play on without realizing that you are already on a tilt. You give away your chips hand after hand. Poker players who want to be profitable must know when they are tilting and plug the leaks immediately. It will be such a waste if you will wait for the game to end and analyse it after losing all that money.

All it takes is a snap

There are people who tilts so fast in a matter of microsecond. Why don’t you google Mike Matusow if you are not familiar with him. All it takes is the littlest of things for them to go kaboom. One time they are very cool and the next moment they are on the edge. If you are very good with charging bulls, these poker players can make, erm give, you a lot of money. Do not wait to make a move against these players since they will get rid of their chips fast. Act quickly.

Trapped in the maze

You may already know that you are tilting but cannot seem to get out of it. You are lost and you are trapped. No way out. You know that you should have an exit point but you keep on missing it. This kind of tilting does not happen in one night. It will be prolonged confusion and agony that stretches for weeks or even months.

When you are on the beating path, try to feed your mind and learn a thing or two to get out of the situation. It will be a big struggle but that is better than just giving in to the tilt.

How do you counter a bluff? First, you must be able to spot it! That is what we will focus on with this post to help you prepare for a move which will force the opponent to be out of hand.

Betting patterns will be one good way to tell that another player is doing a bluff. Since you cannot see your opponent when you play poker online, then you should focus on how they play their hand to see what they are up to.

Continuation Bets

Most of the time, you will notice a player who is bluffing when they make a continuation bet after pushing for a raise on preflop. When they raise pre-flop, this means that they have strong hand, maybe some high cards. If the flop reveals rags and they commit into it, then consider raising or simply calling to check if they have a plan to steal the pot. Most of the time the opponent will have an AQ or AK added to the over cards so they will just opt to fold when you raise.

Scare Card

Another common spot when you’ll catch someone bluffing is when you get the flop with two going for a draw, and then the turn completes it. Let us say the flop gives 10-J-Q. Then you bet, the other player calls. The dealer gives a King for the turn, then your opponents pushes a big one. There is a high possibility that this player is bluffing. If you made a nut straight, why will you blast out firing?

Desperation Bluff

You don’t need the most high tech radar in your game to see a desperation bluff. A player might suddenly show strength when all the while he or she is trying to portray weak. Someone might be playing on a tilt like when someone has been checking or calling all day then suddenly pushes all of the chips forward upon reaching the river. Most likely they don’t have the draw but just cannot afford to lose some more chips. Play them and teach your opponent a lesson.

This game has a maximum of ten players and one dealer in the game.

All the players receive two hole cards which are known to them only which forms the beginning of their hands. These cards should be used in amalgamation with the five cards which are known as community cards. These five cards can be viewed by all the players on the poker table.

The first two rounds of the game encompass the bets to a minimum amount. All the players play in a precarious manner. The betting increases and stakes are raised in the last two rounds. This generally happens on most poker tables. The betting does not increase more than three raises in a round.

The player sitting on the left side of the dealer initiates the game. The blind is initiated by him and blinds continue in a clockwise pattern. This catalyzes the action on the poker table.

After two rounds of betting have taken place players need to decide the fate of the two hole cards which were dealt to all the players on the table. They can either fold or raise the blind and continue the game. After this 3 cards are exposed on the table by the dealer (in a casino – by the computer on the internet). This is called the flop. Many players fold their cards after this round.

After the three community cards are exposed betting continues on the poker table. Post this the fourth community card or the fourth street card is exposed to all the players. Some players fold and some raise the stakes. The final round of betting on the poker table is very exciting as the last community card is visible to all the players and this also decides the fate of the game as well.

The winner of the game is the player who has the uppermost five cards in their hand which has been combined with the two hole cards.

It is an exciting game and mystery unfolds with each round. As the community cards are visible to the players the bets increase and players even fold their hands if they have slim chances of survival in the game.

All in all this game requires an easy combination of luck and skill to win the pot. Undoubtedly Limit Texas Holdem is one of the greatest poker games which is played by millions of people.

You will not succeed in the long term if you do not know how to be patient. In fact, to be the best poker player you can possibly be, it is absolutely, one hundred percent vital.

Sure, it is tempting to play every hand, because you have to figure, the more hands you play, the more money you can win, right? Wrong. You need to learn the importance of playing quality hands, otherwise you may end up losing a whole lot of money.

Sure, there are times you can play strange hands, to throw your opponents off a bit, but you should not make a practice out of it. It will only make you get sloppy.

Anyway, they are the cards that the dealer lays face up on the table. They include the flop, the turn, and the river, which we will get to in a little while.

In some variations of poker, you have a draw — contrary to what you might be thinking, this does not necessarily mean that you are drawing new cards. On the contrary, it means you are attempting to improve your present hand by using the board, or community, cards. You want some specific cards to show up on the table.

The pre flop describes the point at which your hand gets dealt to you. At this point, each player receives two cards which only they can see.

However, they are replacing the traditional ante with which a lot of us are familiar. You have to pay the blinds before being able to see your cards.
